The Elephant in the Room

The Elephant in the Room, Model: Stella, Dulwich Art Group, October 2013
Model: Stella

Back from a lengthy Summer break for the first of three three hour sessions. The model this time is Stella - you might remember her appearance in an earlier painting - the one where I painted over the run-away Daniel and then had to excise his sausage which was still visible under her chin...

Preliminary Sketches
It was a dull pose (almost identical to this one), but there was a nice spotty curtain and Stella has quite an interesting shape; big square jaw atop a willowy frame... Apparently she was recovering from a "dance injury" which is probably why she looks a bit tired in these pix.

Over the weekend I reproduced my sketch on an A3 sheet, amidst the breakfast debris and clutter on my filthy kitchen table, boshed out a rudimentry undercoat, and added a much needed elephant...

She's packed her trunk...
Alison, one of the organisers, pointed out the symmetry of "the tits and the tusks". I aussured her that it was entirely unconcious – there's no subtext here!
