LaDawn of the Dead

LaDawn of the Dead, Model: LaDawn Clare-Panton, Dulwich Art Group, March 2013
Model: LaDawn

It was half term for the first week of this pose, so I couldn't attend all three sessions. I did however manage to pop in for five minutes to get an idea of what it was going to be. When I saw the seemingly uncomfortable angle of the model's head it immediately reminded me of another painting...

The Death of Marat  Jacques-Louis David, 1793

The Model didn't seem to mind the crick in her neck and was so relaxed that she seemed to doze off from time to time. This presented me with a problem with her eyes. I'd paint them open then look up and find them closed. I'd paint them closed then look up and find them open. The third time this happened I decided to leave them as blank orbs - eyes rolled back into her head.

Is she in ecstasy? Or has she joined the ranks of the undead?

I'd already painted a fancy tub, complete with brass claw feet, but I zombified her bathroom to match her demeanour.

The model's name was LaDawn - LaDawn of the Dead!
