Daniel is Gone

Model: Stella – and not Daniel!

This isn't a particularly good painting, but the reasons why aren't entirely due to my painting skills – or the lack thereof...

After a break for the Easter holidays I was almost keen to get my paints out again. For the next three sessions our model was to be Daniel, a corpulent, out-of-work actor. I was quite pleased as we don't often get male models.

Preparatory Sketch · Model: Daniel
With that slightly pissed off expression I thought he could be waiting for a bus. So I went and photographed my nearest bus stop and re-worked the sketch on blue paper.

When I returned for the second session Daniel was nowhere to be seen. He was at an audition that had over-run and consequently the class was cancelled. Not only that but the model was sacked! All that prep work for nought - Grrrr...

For the third and final session he was replaced by the disarmingly charming Stella.

With only two and a half hours to complete a piece pretty much from scratch I had to work fast. I decided to paint over my existing work - no sense in wasting the paper...

Presto Chango!
Slapping paint on, with Rolf Harris abandon, I managed to obscure the absent actor and get the piece into a semi-respectable state by the end of the session. Or so I thought...

Just as I was packing away my brushes and paints I suddenly noticed Daniel's chubby, pork saveloy peeping out from under her chin!

Cock Off!
A couple of deft paint strokes and Daniel is Gone... although his todger is still visible if you tilt the painting at a certain angle...
